Un repasito

El que le da Jack Shafer (foto) a Michael Wolff a propósito de la biografía de Murdoch que firma éste. La llama gossipy, elliptical biography.

Shafer, editor at large de Slate, niega la mayor pero acepta el trabajo: For all of its flaws, this quickie biography, published just 14 months after it was announced, reveals the truest portrait of the inner Murdoch yet.

Esa es su conclusión, pero antes ha manejado bien el palo:

By accepting Murdoch on his own terms, Wolff tilts his focus toward the sympathetic, but it's the sort of sympathy John Milton rewards Satan with in
Paradise Lost. Murdoch, like Satan, is simply the most interesting character in the larger story and therefore the most deserving of our understanding. This doesn't mean that Wolff turns Murdoch's negatives into positives but that he suspends judgment as he records his subject's many "signature" acts of betrayal, double-dealing, and skulduggery.

:: UPDATE: Christian Rocca es un tipo listo. Vale la pena su toma en Il Foglio sobre la bio de Murdoch. Lo ve así: Wendy, la mujer fría, metódica y calculadora, y Elizabeth, la hija rebelde y bien conectada, han llevado al magnate a conocer y sintonizar de algún modo con la izquierda caviar británica y americana. Murdoch, seducido por la buena sociedad progre.
